Simple ways you can help protect our island, reefs, and community during your stay
Whale Island Resort is located on Hon Ong, a pristine island in Nha Trang Bay. Since 1997, we’ve been committed to protecting the environment and supporting local communities. By choosing to stay here, you are already part of this mission — and with a few simple actions, you can make your trip even more meaningful.
1. Before You Travel
• Travel light: A lighter bag means lower fuel use and emissions.
• Bring reusables: Water bottles, bags, and eco-friendly toiletries help us reduce plastic waste.
• Choose reef-safe products: Avoid sunscreens and cosmetics with harmful chemicals (oxybenzone, octinoxate, etc.) that damage coral reefs.
2. During Your Stay
• Save energy: We use solar energy as much as possible, but a diesel generator is still needed when demand is high. Please help us reduce fuel use by switching off lights and fans when not in use.
• Save water: Take shorter showers, turn off taps, and reuse towels to reduce waste.
• Reduce waste: Use recycling bins, avoid single-use plastics, and only order what you can finish at meals.
• Eat local: Enjoy fresh Vietnamese dishes and local seafood that supports nearby communities.
3. Protect Our Reef & Wildlife
• Snorkel responsibly: Never touch or step on corals, and avoid stirring up sand which can smother reef life.
• No collecting: Please do not take shells, corals, plants, or stones from the island.
• Respect wildlife: Do not feed wild animals or birds, it can harm them and upset the ecosystem.
• Guided tours: Join our eco-activities to learn about marine life, coral restoration, and island conservation.
4. Support Our Community
• Local employment: Most of our staff are from nearby villages, thank you for supporting their livelihoods.
• Shop local: Buy handicrafts and products made by local artisans.
• Respect people & culture: Always ask before taking photos of residents. Be mindful of traditions and customs.
• Give responsibly: If you wish to give back, please donate to our community and reef restoration projects through reception.
5. Respect & Safety
By following these simple actions, you help Whale Island Resort:
• Fairness & respect: Treat staff and fellow guests with courtesy.
• Child protection: We have zero tolerance for exploitation. If you suspect abuse, please report it to our team immediately. You can also report your concerns directly to Vietnam’s National Hotline for Child Protection at 111.
Thank you for being a responsible guest at Whale Island. Your actions help us reduce fuel use, protect coral reefs, support local communities, and keep Hon Ong beautiful for future generations.
