Global plastic pollution is reaching alarming levels
A journey toward eliminating single use plastics
Understanding the severe consequences of global plastic pollution, Whale Island Resort has chosen a sustainable path, starting with small but meaningful changes by eliminating single use plastics. At the resort, you will not find plastic water bottles, plastic straws, or plastic signage. Instead, natural and eco friendly materials such as palm leaves, stone, bamboo, and wood are used.
Beyond this, reclaimed wood from abandoned boats is repurposed into unique interior details, blending rustic charm with Cham cultural influences.
This reflects our long term commitment to inspiring both our team and guests to adopt more responsible lifestyles and contribute to preserving nature for future generations.
Ongoing waste collection efforts
At Whale Island Resort, weekly activities are organized to preserve the pristine beauty of Van Phong Bay, including beach clean ups and waste collection.
Discarded glass bottles are also collected and repurposed into materials for creative workshops, where guests can transform them into decorative items displayed within the resort, creating a meaningful and engaging sustainable experience.
Coral reef restoration initiatives
Whale Island Resort has collaborated with Rainbow Divers and the PADI AWARE Foundation to restore coral reefs around the island by placing concrete structures combined with recycled glass bottles on the seabed.
These structures provide a foundation for young corals to attach and grow, allowing marine species such as fish and sea turtles to return and thrive. These efforts contribute to restoring a balanced marine ecosystem in Van Phong Bay.
Solar energy for sustainable operations
To reduce emissions and protect the environment, the resort utilizes solar energy systems to minimize reliance on conventional power sources while ensuring stability during outages.
Guests are encouraged to conserve water, use electricity responsibly, and manage personal waste. These small yet meaningful actions contribute to building a shared commitment to sustainability.
Green tourism aligned with net zero goals
As the world moves toward Net Zero and Vietnam has made commitments at COP26, Whale Island Resort offers more than just a getaway. It is an invitation to embrace a greener lifestyle.
Environmental responsibility is shared by both the resort team and guests. Every small action contributes to sustainable tourism, protecting marine ecosystems and preserving the ocean’s natural beauty for generations to come.
